Stu Brooks is a two-time grammy nominated, Canadian born/Los Angeles-based bass player, producer, songwriter and founding member of the genre-bending band Dub Trio.
Stu is the touring bassist, guitarist and keyboard player for Nine Inch Nails.
Stu is bassist and co-producer for the multi-award winning filmscore composer and founder of Oingo Boingo, Danny Elfman. His work on the project includes producing collaborations with Trent Reznor, Ghostemane and Iggy Pop and executive producing over 20 remixes; collectively the deluxe album “Bigger Messier”. These remixes include collaborations with Squarepusher, Zach Hill of Death Grips, Machine Girl, Xiu Xiu, Einsterzende Neubauten, Health, Ghostemane, and more.

Stu is the bassist for Dominic Fike. He can be heard on tour and on the album “Sunburn”. He also appears as a duo with Dom on a number of special performances.
Stu is the touring bassist for VOWWS, and he has recently also performed live with Good Charlotte and Sublime. Stu is currently producing Perry Farrell’s upcoming solo album as well as playing bass for Kind Heaven Orchestra.
Stu recently produced the album “Bad Man Back Again” with N8NOFACE as well as the song “Kids In Love - feat h09909” for N8. He also recently produced “Questions Vol 1” with Mark Guiliana for whom he previously engineered and played bass on this Grammy-nominated album “Beat Music Beat Music Beat Music”.
Stu also recently released “This Sound” with the late Jo Mersa Marley and Natali Rize, who he also collaborated with on another song “This World” that includes Grammy winner Kabaka Pyramid.
Stu’s debut solo album “40HZ” was released via Dine Alone Records and featured guest appearances on every track including Danny Elfman, Poppy, Flowdan, Richard Divine, Twin Shadow, Machine Girl, Paul Leary (Butthole Surfers), and more. He was working on the follow up with legendary reggae drummer and producer Sly Dunbar until his untimely passing this year. Stu will continue this album in his honor.
From 2016-2020, Stu was bassist, musical director and frequent collaborator for GRiZ. Prior to that, he spent a decade with Matisyahu as bassist, co-writer, MD, and producer. Stu has toured worldwide in those roles for the above artists, Mike Patton’s Peeping Tom, Dr. John, and Dub Trio.
Stu is a recurring guest bassist for the Saturday Night Live Band sharing the stage with the likes of Kanye West and Kid Cudi. He was musical director for the Bonaroo SuperJam, featuring GRiZ, Walk The Moon, Nahko, K. Flay, Lindsay Ell, and members of David Bowie’s Blackstar Band paying tribute to the late artist.
His bass performances have played a role in the creation of a number of Billboard charting and Platinum certified recordings, including the Grammy-nominated Pretty Lights album “A Color Map Of The Sun”, #7 Billboard hit “So Seductive featuring 50 Cent”, Tony Yayo’s Platinum Certified “Thoughts of a Predicate Felon” and 50 Cent’s 9x Platinum album “Get Rich Or Die Trying”. He also served as the bassist on the Lady Gaga demos that famously attracted the attention of Interscope.
Past production, songwriting and playing collaborations include GRiZ’s “Ride Waves” LP, G Koop, Eric Wilson (Sublime), Fever333, Ms. Lauryn Hill, Meshell Ndegeocello, Mobb Deep, Tupac Shakur (posthumously), Wiz Khalifa, Bootsy Collins, BIGYUKI, Hyro The Hero, P.O.D., Kid Cudi, Wett Brain, Collie Buddz, LP, 311, Noah Kahan, Common Kings, Run DMC, Mastodon, and King Buzzo of the legendary Melvins.
